November meeting

November 11, 2011 11:36 by davec

The meeting will be held Tuesday the 15th at 7pm in room 204 in the Computer Science building. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Come out and support the group!

Using threads to increase application performance of high latency operations

Description:

Many modern IO APIs feature Asynchronous IO routines which can be used to increase responsiveness and throughput, but sometimes we have to use synchronous interfaces. I'm going to present a simulation of a real problem I encountered communicating with a peripheral device and demonstrate several incrementally improved solutions which result in overlapping much of the latency for each operation. Additionally I will present a special purpose message queue created for this purpose and demonstrate its benefits over other message queues in this application.

Speaker bio:

Nathan Moore (Zack's brother) currently works at Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC) in the embedded software division. Before that he worked on firmware for Smart Grid devices.

The meeting will be in the Mercer University Computer Science building.

The street address for Mercer is 1400 Coleman AVE, Macon, GA

He focuses on high-end consulting in the Atlanta region and specializes in Microsoft technologies. At present, Ritesh is consulting with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an Architect and Lead Developer building a highly scalable web-based solution.

Outside of work he is very active in local user groups, participates in GiveCamp, and has presented to Atlanta code camp, Gwinnett Georgia Microsoft User Group, Atlanta.net User Group and Microsoft Integration Architect User group on topics such as WCF, jQuery and ASP.net. He enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife and playing with 3 year-old daughter.

May Meeting - HTML5

May 12, 2011 22:58 by zack

Reminder that this coming Tuesday (17 May 2011) is the next .NET User Group meeting.

This month's topic is HTML5.

So what is HTML5 and what's the big deal?

HTML is the language of the web and HTML5 is the next version of the HTML standard.

With the standard pretty much set and the latest version of all the major browsers now supporting it, HTML5 is poised to release a whole new wave of web sites that can rival anything written in Flash or Silverlight.

Meeting is at 7PM. in room 204 of the Computer Science building at Mercer University in Macon.

We have some HTML5 books and other items to give away as well as pizza and soft drinks.
